LaDonna Tamakawastewin Brave Bull Allard – 1956-2021
On behalf of the Board of SAGE Development Authority/Anpetu Wi Wind Farm, we extend our heartfelt condolences and support to the family, friends, and loved ones of our dear friend and relative LaDonna Tamakawastewin (Good Earth Woman) Brave Bull Allard, who has joined her beloved husband Miles Allard across the Milky Way to our families that wait for our coming home.
Ms. Allard’s powerful presence and activism as one of the leaders of the original protests to protect our water “Mni Wiconi” will be forever remembered. She was a founder of the Sacred Stones Camp – the first resistance camp aimed at stopping the oil pipeline threat against our lives at Standing Rock in – on her family’s land in Cannonball, North Dakota. LaDonna is a force you feel when you’re with her, she welcomed and cared for everyone and wanted better lives for everyone.
LaDonna Allard was a recipient of the 2019 William Sloane Coffin Jr. Peacemaker Award, which is presented yearly to an activist who has made an impact in achieving a more peaceful world. In addition, she spoke on the efforts to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline at the United Nations. Ms. Allard graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in history, after which she became the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s tourism coordinator.
LaDonna Tamakawastewin Brave Bull Allard’s wóčhaŋtet’iŋze (courage) has left a powerful legacy at Standing Rock. As part of the Standing Rock community, we are forever thankful for the time we were able to spend with Mrs. Allard. We will miss her deeply. Her familial knowledge of how we are all related is a gift that forever benefits our people. Her family is in our thoughts and prayers at this time of transition.
With our profound gratitude and appreciation for her gifts that will benefit generations to come.
