SAGE has already submitted an application for interconnection to the Southwest Power Pool and has raised nearly $2 million from nine different philanthropic foundations for pre-development work to set up SAGE.

The launch of the new crowdfunding initiative, which aims to raise $1.5 million as its phase-one goal, is the next step toward achieving the building of Anpetu Wi. It follows the milestone of SAGE submitting its application for interconnection to the Southwest Power Pool. Nearly $2 million has already been raised to date from nine different philanthropic foundations for pre-development work to establish SAGE, which will also take advantage of the enhanced market economics that come with qualification for the 2020 Federal Production Tax Credit. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $325 million.
It’s hard to discuss the Dakota Access Pipeline without also discussing the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, who passionately protested the controversial oil pipeline unjustly being built on their land for years. Now, following a temporary shutdown of the pipeline, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is building a wind farm, so they can “leave a legacy on [their] native land” — and it will be a groundbreaking project in so many ways.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is courting developers to help build a 235-MW wind farm within its borders.
The Native American nation has identified a site near Fort Yates, N.D., and built access roads in order to show progress so that it can capture equity from the federal production tax credit, said Joseph McNeil, general manager of the SAGE Development Authority, a public power authority the Standing Rock Sioux recently set up.
