Thank you to everyone who joined SAGE on Thursday, May 20 for a conversation between four Indigenous women who are each powerful advocates, changemakers, leaders, legislators, and educators. This dialogue marks the eighth installment of our monthly talk series, Anpetu Wi Dialogues from Standing Rock.
Panelists Rep. Ruth Buffalo, Tara Houska, Tokata (Future) Iron Eyes, and Fawn Wasin Zi covered topics including:
- The necessity of reestablishing our connective tissue to Grandmother Earth
- The militarization of law enforcement in the face of peaceful protest at #NoDAPL, and how that has sparked a stronger desire for proactive change
- Pushback against Fossil Fuel companies and their clutches to how energy is produced and consumed
- The importance of inherent accountability; we should not wait for others to educate us about what is wrong before we take action
- The necessity of taking care of ourselves so that we can continue fighting for and finding upstream solutions to current issues
